Session Weather and Climate in the Digital Media Landscape

Description:

The digital media landscape has exploded over the past decade and transformed the way people consume information including weather and climate information.  It has forced the broadcast and weather communication industries to re-think how they deliver everything from daily weather forecasts to environmental science information to the public.  But digital media has also opened up new opportunities and ways for more people, experts and novices alike, to communicate and educate about weather, climate, and the connection to society.  Amateur weather enthusiasts have proliferated thanks to social media platforms, and unique avenues such as podcasts help reach a broad set of audiences.  The AMS has recognized the importance of this technology shift by recently establishing its Certified Digital Meteorologist program.  This session will focus on use cases demonstrating the benefits of digital media platforms like social media, podcasts, newsletters, blogs, and more to deliver weather and climate information for informational, educational, and broader societal benefits.
