Session 06  R2O Progress in GNSS Radio Occultations and Reflectometry for NWP and Climate Change Detection

Description:

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Radio Occultation (RO) provides sounding measurements of the atmosphere with high vertical resolution and accuracy, making it particularly useful for understanding climate changes, monitoring environmental conditions, and enhancing weather forecasting capabilities. This session calls for presentations on transition of GNSS RO and GNSS-Reflectometry technologies from research to operational use. Topics will include recent developments and advancements in RO technologies, operational applications, and the role of these advancements in enhancing weather forecasting accuracy and monitoring climate change. The session aims at demonstrating the impact of GNSS RO and GNSS-Reflectometry on weather prediction, contributions to climate change detection and monitoring, and addressing future directions and challenges in R2O transitions.
