Description:
The 90-minute panel will bring together experts on climate, environment, and health to discuss advances in climate-based health early warning systems. We begin by framing the conversation around climate and health by discussing the critical role of climate variability and change in shaping infectious and non-transmissible diseases dynamics and the imperative need to advance actionable climate and disease modeling and predictions. We then discuss recent advances in environmental modeling and the tailoring of predictions to respond to the needs of the heath sector. We provide examples of climate-based infectious disease modeling and heat-health forecasts and work underway to advance the use of climate information in public health policy, and discuss challenges the scientific community needs to address, especially in epidemiological modeling and predictions. We close by discussing the end-to-end process of climate-based health early warning systems, its sustainability through multidisciplinary partnerships across all sectors of environment, health, and policy.
