Research continues to steadily increase within the Weather Enterprise, as well as Aviation, Range, and Aerospace Meteorology. With this research increasingly focused on operational needs, the challenges of managing research, and transitioning the results to operations remains a considerable endeavor in cost and other resources. Especially in this dawning era of “big data” and disruptive new technologies (e.g., UAS). One of the grand challenges for these enterprises is to find which of these meaningful research results are transition-able and the ways and means to transition research results to operations and applications [R2O] using efficient and cost-effective techniques and technologies. Additionally, the often over-looked closing of the circle from Operations to Research (O2R) is crucial in focusing the needs of operational aviation, range, and aerospace users and decision makers back to drive focused research.
