Efforts Across the U.S. Government at the Nexus of Climate and Health

Description:

The Interagency Crosscutting Group on Climate Change and Human Health (CCHHG) was chartered by the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) in 2009 to serve as the entry point for coordination and collaboration across the U.S. government on climate and health issues. As an interagency body that convenes agencies from across the federal government, the CCHHG is a unique forum for integrating and evaluating science on the effects of climate change on public health, as well as contributing to congressionally mandated scientific assessments and tools that are used to empower stakeholders’ understanding and ability to take action to reduce climate-related risks to human health. As climate change is increasingly being recognized as the most critical public health crisis our nation is facing, leadership and coordination research and response across the government is ever-growing and more important than ever in this space. The focus of this session is to uplift the work of the CCHHG community and its federal member agencies, including: the USGCRP climate services initiative; climate-health indicators development with agencies such as HHS and USDA; international climate-health coordination efforts; and the National Institutes for Health (NIH) Climate Change and Human Health Initiative.
