The are few detailed measurements of Arctic boundary layer properties above the surface layer. During the ASCOS field campaign a phased array sodar was operated continuously to provide measurements of mean wind profiles and acoustic backscatter from ~30m to ~500m with a vertical resolution of 10m and a temporal resolution of 10 minutes. With additional information on the surface heat flux the acoustic backscatter signal can be calibrated and information on turbulence properties retrieved: temperature structure function, stability, and turbulent diffusivity. Here we present a preliminary overview of the ASCOS sodar measurements and their relationship with the synoptic conditions.
