TWERSKY two-space scattering formalism and ARM

Twersky’s Two-Space Scattering formalism will be applied to an atmospheric slab or column. The scatterers in the medium will not be uniformly distributed and will be allowed to be inhomogeneous. Water content of the cloud, water vapor, and moist atmosphere will be taken into account. The non-uniform distribution of different scatterers in the atmospheric slab will contain spherical and non-spherical water droplets, ice particles, and crystals. The analytic calculations will produce the microphysics properties of the cloud. Bulk propagation parameters and bulk properties of the cloud will be obtained in terms of the known characteristics of its constituents. Using data provided by ARM, we will test the analytical results. The main instrument in question will be the Micropulse Lidar (MPL).
