BAMEX dropsonde dat ahas been analyzed to identify surface based cold pools. The cold pool is identified from a number of BAMEX cases using time to space conversion of high temporal resolution surface data. Cold pool depth indicated by the dropsonde data will be compared to the surface cold pool structure. Dropsonde data will also be examined in the vicinity of wake lows to understand the temporal and spatial variation of such structures. The occurence of severe surface winds appears to be correlated to both the rear inflow jet and strong reflectivity cores. Dropsonde data indicates that the interaction between the up-down downdraft and rear inflow jet produces the strong surface winds near the leading edge of the surging cold pool.
