A method for calculating Obukhov lengths and buoyancy fluxes from high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR)-generated wind speed imagery is tested. The wind imagery were created from several RADARSAT-1 scenes collected off the East Coast of the United States during 1996-1997 winter season. Comparisons are made between SAR-generated products those obtained from the Tropical Ocean-Global Atmosphere Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Response Experiment 2.5 Bulk Flux Algorithm which uses corresponding buoy data as input.
