The wake vortex is an inevitable aerodynamics phenomenon for an aircraft in flight, whose circulation plays an important part in estimating its hazard to the following aircrafts .In cloudy and mist conditions, radar is believed to have a relatively good detection performance due to the enhanced backscattering from cloud droplets. Aim at monitoring and detecting the wake vortex around the terminal area of airports, the Doppler characteristics of the wake vortex is simulated and analyzed on the combination of typical wake vortex aerodynamics model and electromagnetic scattering model. And then, a mapping algorithm between the Doppler spectrum and the actual circulation is proposed to estimate the circulation of the wake vortex, and performance of the algorithm is proved to be good according to the simulated results.
