The influence of meteorological parameters on the asthmatic attacks in children

The influence of meteorological parameters (mean, minimum and maximum temperature, the daily temperature range, relative humidity, air pressure, insolation, interdiurnal temperature and air pressure changes, thermal sensation and stability of the atmosphere) on the asthmatic attacks in children treated in the Hospital for breathing diseases in Zagreb during 1984 is analysed. The investigation is performed separately for all seasons, for the cold part (October to March) and warm part (April to September) of the year and for the whole year. The frequency and the intensity of asthmatic attacks are taken into account. The correlation coefficients between asthmatic attacks and meteorological parameters are the most pronounced during the winter, less during the summer and the least during spring and autumn. The correlations are the strongest between the temperature parameters and asthmatic attacks, especially during the winter and the cold part of the year. During the winter and the cold part of the year the asthmatic attacks are more frequent as the temperatures are lower and when is getting colder, while during summer during hot periods and when getting warmer. In both seasons asthmatic attacks are more frequent in situations with higher air pressure, lower relative humidity, greater insolation and positive air pressure tendency. In other seasons, in the warm part of the year as well as in the whole year the correlations between asthmatic attacks and meteorological parameters don't indicate at any weather situation convenient for the greater frequency of asthmatic attacks.
