The Measurement and modelling of gaseous emissions from swine confinement facilities
Over the past several years, methane and nitrous oxide emissions from various farm activities have been measured. This paper presents those data collected both from within and downwind of swine confinement facilities. In addition, a short range dispersion model, AGricultural MODel, (AGMOD), has been developed in-house to facilitate the assessment of impact and risk of agricultural pollutant emissions. The model, based on the US EPA model AERMOD, has been used to predict the fate of these emissions from swine confinement facilities. The modelling also has allowed us to investigate odourous emissions, based on dilution factors for the methane emissions measured from these facilities.
