Chemical tracers and tracer correlations are effective tools for diagnosing transport processes in the UTLS region. Systematic applications of tracer and tracer correlation have mostly limited to long-lived tracers. In this study, we explore the use of tracers with different lifetimes, using the NCAR chemical-transport model (CTM) MOZART-3 and the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model (WACCM), in identifying key transport processes in the UTLS region. The characteristics of modeled tracers are examined using previously proposed diagnostics to evaluate the representations of chemical and transport processes in the model. Available in-situ tracer observations, those from the Whole Air Sampler during several field campaigns over North America, in particular, are used in the model-data comparisons. The tracer relationships derived from the chemical transport model data for selected meteorological conditions and transport pathways will be used in the planning of future field campaign.
