The tropopause in the 21st century is examined with chemistry-coupled GCMs. Despite of the fast recovery of stratospheric ozone, global tropopause pressure (height) is found to decrease (rise) almost linearly in the future climate. This trend is primarily associated with the continuous decrease in ozone at the tropical lower stratosphere. It suggests that the positive correlation between the tropopause pressure and total column ozone in literatures might be misleading. The possible impact of a stronger Brewer-Dobson circulation in the future climate to the tropopause pressure is also discussed.
