11.4

A fifteen year perspective on national and international training directed towards forecasters

Bernadette H. Connell, CIRA/Colorado State Univ., Ft. Collins, CO; and D. Bikos, J. Braun, A. Mostek, and M. DeMaria

We briefly review the trends of both national and international training directed towards forecasters over the past 15 years. It include perspectives on how technology and budget has influenced the method of delivery, the continued importance of “customer service”, and the importance of user feedback and reevaluation on the part of the trainers and developers. We touch on the many approaches directed towards the national community that have been directly applicable to the international community and vice versa. We also weave the theme of experience into the discussion – both from the perspectives of developing and delivering the training and receiving and utilizing the training. We end on current and future plans, particularly as they relate to new satellite observations.
