Solar Proton Events (SPEs) can have a significant impact on ozone in the middle atmosphere. This is especially evident when the effects of nitrogen and hydrogen catalytic loss cycles are considered. Focusing on the two most recent SPEs (7-17 September 2005 and 15-23 January 2005), we use measurements from EOS-Aura MLS and ACE-FTS to examine the effects of SPEs on the high-latitude middle atmosphere, with an emphasis on ozone photochemistry. The satellite data are also used to explore the dynamical effects of SPEs and transport of SPE products.
