Field observation according to the urban redevelopment in the norh-west region of Seoul

The estimation of local meteorological impact on urban redevelopment is very difficult due to the complex changes in geometry and land use/ cover. In this study, the spatial and temporal distribution of temperature and sensible heat flux in the urban redevelopment area was analyzed to address the impact on local meteorology due to the land use changes during the urban redevelopment period. To address this, routine and intensive observations took place at the urban redevelopment area Eunpyong, located in the north-west region in Seoul, from March 2007 to February 2010. For the routine measurements, nine temperature loggers were installed to investigate the fine structures of spatial and temporal changes in the meteorological measurements. During the intensive summer time observation periods, radiosondes for pressure, air temperature, and relative humidity profile and a flux tower for sensible and latent heat fluxes were operated in addition. Then, the changes in local pattern of thermal environment due to the land use changes were analyzed. From the result of the flux observation, increase in sensible heat flux was observed after the construction. The air temperature gradient between the development and vegetation areas was inclined by the construction. These results can be used in determining the urban canopy parameters for the micro-scale numerical models as well as analyzing micro climate phenomenon.
