Castle Peak Ballroom (Keystone Resort)
With the use of two 3-D Sonic Anemometers, stationarity periods in turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) were examined in a forest canopy at nighttime over the period of a month. The anemometers were placed at heights of 8, and 21.4 meters above ground, corresponding to heights below the live crown, above canopy respectively. The data was collected at the Howland Research Forest in Howland, Maine, which consists mostly of an old growth Spruce/Fir forest. The data was collected over the month of September 2009. These stationarity periods were accumulated to examine the energy penetration into the canopy of this site in the stable boundary layer. The results of this work and relationships to stablility will be presented.
