National Weather Service AWIPS Developer Training Course

The National Weather Service (NWS) provided AWIPS Developers Training in the Spring/Summer of 2019 to 155 registered participants. The training covered many areas of AWIPS software development, providing hands-on experience in developing plugins for the AWIPS architecture. The 28 hour-long training sessions included topics such as developing ingest plugins, display plugins, developing within virtual machines, developing within the cloud, and developing within Docker. In addition to giving the 28 live training sessions, recording them, and making these recordings available, all training sessions were pre-recorded into multiple shorter videos, these videos and all instructions were made available online within NOAA’s Virtual Laboratory. The training course, including feedback from the participants, will be discussed.
