NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) is the world’s largest repository of environmental data and information. Millions of individuals, organizations, and companies in the U.S. and around the world use NCEI’s use-inspired data and information for planning, making decisions, and for building and delivering products and services. In recent years, NCEI has developed, and fine-tuned, strategic approaches to gain deeper insights on customer applications and benefits of NCEI products through Value of the Data case studies and customer analytics.

In an effort to enrich this understanding, and assess data gaps and opportunities, NCEI held a Users’ Conference in May 2019 in Asheville, NC. Driven by analytics produced over recent years, the conference focused on key U.S. economic sectors and products, resulting in rich engagement with 14 of the 24 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) defined sectors. The Users’ Conference provides a concrete example of NCEI’s commitment to developing use-inspired products and services that make a difference to decision makers across all sectors of the Nation.

This poster will demonstrate requirements captured at the Users’ Conference, how these align with current analytics, and steps that NCEI plans in an effort to prioritize and address these in the path forward.
