A new k-e turbulence parameterization is developed for the atmospheric stable boundary layer, based on the turbulence model of incompressible fluid of Shih et al. (1995). The parameterization introduces a process of buoyancy damping to represent the effect of atmospheric stability. It is consistent with the Monin-Obukhov similarity. After it is incorporated into a boundary layer model, its results are compared to the Leipzig data, showing that the parameterization is good and its results are sensitivity to atmospheric stability. In addition, a short review on other k-e turbulence models is given to provide a background of this study.
