In support of the design of the next generation of satellite architecture at NOAA, a series of Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) are underway. Benefits from well-known existing observing systems are combined with potential enhancements from non-yet-existing capabilities. In addition, trade-off studies in the design and configuration of proposed observing systems (e.g. coverage, resolution, accuracy, and data redundancy) are considered. In this talk we present details on the global OSSE system used in the experiments, including the nature run, the simulation of the observations and calibration aspects. In addition, we summarize preliminary results of ongoing experiments, as well as a comprehensive list of experiments to be conducted in the near-future.
