The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) is the key visualization and forecast system utilized by National Weather Service forecasters to support the agency mission of saving lives and property.

The AWIPS Program began in the 1980’s and has a long history of providing the tools necessary for forecasters to stay situationally aware of the weather, analyze computer models, and issue the forecasts and warnings critical to public safety. This presentation will show the timeline of the AWIPS evolution and highlight the key new capabilities that have been introduced along the way, as the system has evolved to meet the NWS mission.
