The balanced vortex model has long been used for the study of tropical cyclone evolution, including inner-core dynamics and intensification. This study explores the use of latent heating profiles developed with the Hurricane Goddard Profiling Algorithm (H-GPROF) from the Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) Microwave Imager (GMI) overpasses of tropical cyclones to explore the balanced vortex response to outer- and inner-core heating, and compares these results with the observed evolution in the context of environmental parameters that inhibit intensification and growth.
