The National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS) is moving into a new operating paradigm where it will provide space based observations from a combination of NOAA managed assets, partner sources, and commercial entities. To enable the new paradigm, a scalable data agnostic ground system is needed to exploit emerging technologies and techniques such as cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. Therefore, NESDIS is leveraging these evolutionary tools in a pilot project that will provide a data agnostic ground processing and distribution system that can seamlessly integrate new commercial and partner data as well as NOAA managed assets within a common framework. Additionally, the adoption of Dev/Ops practices will increase the organizations ability transition products into operations with increased velocity. This presentation will describe the evolving technical landscape NESDIS is operating in, as well as the data agnostic cloud solution being proposed to meet future organizational objectives.
