Recently, there have been many reports, analyses and discussion regarding coexistence of 5G mobile telecommunications and passive microwave remote sensing near 24-GHz. This paper will attempt to elucidate key aspects of the operation of Earth Exploration Satellite Service (EESS-passive) and Upper Microwave Flexible Use Service (UMFUS), or 5G cellular service, that drive the potential for interference to future weather observations.
