Open Access continues to be a pressing topic within the academic world, with academic communities in the US and Europe recently taking major steps to launch the topic into the news and incentivize Open Access publishing. This presentation will examine the current state of Open Access policies in the meteorology and atmospheric science publishing fields and how the numbers compare to other STEM disciplines. The presentation will also address how the impact factors of Open Access journals stack up against journals published under traditional models, and whether Open Access policies affect the citation counts of meteorological researchers. The presentation will also cover ways for librarians to open up conversations about Open Access with researchers in the meteorological field.
