Influence of some aspects of internal variability of the climate system on the on-going global warming is considered. It is shown probablistically that a deeper sequestration of heat in the ocean, say, as associated with deep water formation, is necessary to explain ocean heat content and surface air temperature observations. Such observations cannot be explained by subduction-related mode water formation processes alone.
