Recent comparisons of turbulence statistics measured by orthogonal and non-orthogonal three-component sonic anemometers have suggested that non-orthogonal sonic anemometers underestimate vertical velocity fluctuations. We show turbulence simulations, wind-tunnel measurements, and field observations that support a simple correction for flow distortion in the CSAT non-orthogonal sonic anemometer.
