Tropical convections (TCs) play a significant role in modulating the global hydrological cycle and energy exchange processes. TCs transport solar heating and moisture from the earth surface upward into free troposphere, where they can be moved poleward by the large scale circulation. TCs are commonly coupled with waves in the equatorial region. Here we investigate the wave signal and its variability using more than 30 years of Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) Pathfinder Atmosphere-Extended (PATMOS-x) dataset. This study demonstrates AVHRR PATMOS-x a valuable product for global weather and climate research, including but not limited to atmospheric dynamics.
