Real-time and climate applications that are derived from satellite imagery often rely on accurate cloud detection. Cloud detection performance is therefore critical. In recognition of this, the International Cloud Working Group (ICWG) runs a topical group dedicated to issues associated with cloud detection from satellite imagers. This work will summarize the latest findings of that topical group. Comparisons of cloud detection from NOAA, NASA, the Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the Korean Meteorological Agency (KMA) will be shown using data from the HIMAWARI-8 AHI sensor. The goal of this work is to establish the level of agreement amongst the data providers, and to help identify issues that can be addressed within the ICWG topical group. All the data were collected for the 1st Workshop of the International Cloud Working Group (ICWG), which will be held from 17 to 20 May 2016 in Lille, France.
