Evidence of Culture Change in Meteorology—Actions of Weather and Society * Integrated Studies Participants

Eve Gruntfest, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, CO

Weather and Society * Integrated Studies (WAS*IS) is a grassroots movement to effect change within the weather enterprise by fully integrating social science into meteorological research and practice in a comprehensive and sustained way. The WAS*IS mission is to empower practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders to make new relationships and to use new tools and concepts for more effective socio-economic applications and evaluations of weather information and products. This presentation will summarize some of the most exciting new developments resulting from WAS *IS, detail some of the particular activities of dynamic creative WAS*ISer, and confront some of the challenges facing efforts to integrate, rather than add-on, social science to meteorology. .
