The Global Historical Climatology Network Monthly Temperature Dataset, Version 4

A new version of the Global Historical Climatological Network (GHCN) – Monthly temperature dataset is described. The monthly data for this fourth major revision of GHCN-Monthly comes by combining monthly averages computed from the GHCN-Daily dataset as well as other sources compiled under the auspices of the International Surface Temperature Initiative. Relative to version 3, version 4 contains many thousand more station records and more comprehensive short time delay updates. A more comprehensive assessment of uncertainty is also provided with the version 4 dataset. In this talk, we provide an overview of the data sources, the uncertainty calculations as well as comparisons to other global land surface air temperature datasets.
