Lightning climatology for the State of Colorado
Stephen Hodanish, NOAA/NWS, Pueblo, CO; and P. Wolyn
Average cloud-to-ground lightning flash density values for Colorado have been calculated for the 17-yr period 1989–2005. An annual mean map and monthly/seasonal mean maps will be constructed from the database. These maps represent a 17-yr climatology of the geographic distribution of detected cloud-to-ground lightning flashes and provide an insight into the thunderstorm distribution for the state of Centennial State. We will then deconstruct this monthly and seasonal data down by hour; as this will allow us to observe the diurnal progression of CG activity across the State.
