Rapid-scan mobile radar observations with the mobile rapid-scan DOW were obtained in a tornado on 12 June 2005. These observations were compared with those from a conventional mobile radar, DOW3. The observations both confirm the viability of the Rapid-Scan DOW technology and reveal interesting 3D evolution of the tornado vortex. Preliminary analyses of the rapid-scan volumetric data, which updates every ~10 s, suggest that contraction of scale and intensification of the vortex occur at all levels simultaneously. This will be evaluated in the context of dynamic pipe and other genesis theories.
