Examining structural changes and circulation center of Hurricane Danny (1997) using a single-Doppler radar wind retrieval technique

The primary circulation in a tropical cyclone can be retrieved reasonably well by the ground-based velocity track display technique (GBVTD). This was demonstrated by Lee et al. (1999) using Typhoon Alex radar data. Lee and Marks (2000) showed that an accurate tropical cyclone center is important in deducing the hurricane wind field structure for the GBVTD technique. Hurricane Danny was sampled simultaneously by two WSR-88D radars (KMOB and KLIX) over a five hour period. Danny's evolution of structure and centers are deduced from independent runs of the GBVTD analysis from KMOB and KLIX. Wave 0 and 1 were examined during this sampling period. These results will be presented along with recent comparisons between in situ measurements.
