The Goshen County, Wyoming, supercell of 5 June 2009 intercepted by VORTEX2: Tornado dissipation phase

Yvette Richardson, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA; and P. M. Markowski, J. Wurman, K. Kosiba, P. Robinson, and J. Marquis

We present an analysis of the tornado dissipation period (2212-2230 UTC) of the Goshen County, Nebraska, supercell of 5 June 2009 intercepted by the Second Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment (VORTEX2). We present an overview of the storm environment, the storm-scale radar perspective from WSR-88D, single- and dual-Doppler observations from the Doppler On Wheels (DOW) radars, and in situ surface thermodynamic observations obtained by the NSSL-PSU mobile mesonet. Fields obtained for this period will be compared to those during the pretornadic and mature tornado phases to highlight the changes leading to tornado demise.
