The NOAA (NSSL), X-band, dual-polarization radar (called NOXP) participated in VORTEX2 2010 and collected a robust dataset on tornadic and non-tornadic supercells, and tornadoes from storms that were not supercells. First looks at the data suggest 8 tornadic supercells (producing 10 different tornadoes) were scanned. Tornadogenesis data were captured on 8 of the supercell tornadoes with pre-tornadogenesis information on one other tornadic supercell where scanning stopped just before genesis occurred. Data were also collected on 3 quasi-linear squall lines, producing 3 non-supercell tornadoes (genesis data collected for all 3 events). This paper will show examples of the tornado and tornadogenesis events with emphasis on two supercell cases: 1) the May 10 Seminole, OK Airport EF3 tornado and genesis of the Clearview, OK EF1 tornado (cyclic process), and 2) genesis of the close-range Scottsbluff, NE EF1 tornado. Both traditional moments and dual-polarization variables will be displayed.
