Highlights of the 2007 hurricane season for the Atlantic and eastern North Pacific basins will be reviewed. Preliminary data indicate that the Atlantic saw 14 named tropical cyclones, including 5 hurricanes. Two of these hurricanes (Dean and Felix) hit land as category five hurricane on the Saffir/Simpson Hurricane Scale. Dean hit Yucatan and Felix hit Nicaragua. Humberto was the only hurricane that affected the United States. Rainfall associated with Hurricane Noel killed more than 100 people in Hispaniola and devastated portions of eastern Cuba. The rest of the cyclones in the Atlantic were short-lived and mild. The eastern North Pacific produced fewer than average tropical storms and hurricanes. Henriette was the only hurricane of the Pacific basin that made landfall in Mexico this season producing nine deaths.
