Initalizations in Advanced Operational Hurricane WRF (HWRF) Model

Hurricane WRF (HWRF) has become operational at National Centers for Environmetntal Prediction (NCEP) in June, 2007. The Dynamic framework is the same as NMM core (the same dynamic core is also used in the NAM model). The physics mostly comes from the current operational GFDL hurricane model and the global GFS model. The HWRF has a two-way interaction moving nest, and is also coupled with the POM ocean model. The HWRF uses an advanced method to initialize the hurricanes. We will discuss the details of the initialization and the future direction of our work, and show some of the operational results.
