Development of a new convective parameterization

Ian Folkins, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Current convective parameterizations are often successful at simulating the seasonal variation of convective rainfall. However, they are generally less successful at simulating shorter timescale aspects of tropical rainfall variability. I will give a progress report on the development of a new convective parameterization with particular attention paid to its ability to simulate the diurnal variation of tropical rainfall over the tropical oceans.
