Maintenance of Long-lived African Easterly Waves

David Church, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC; and A. Aiyyer

This study examines long-lived African easterly waves (AEWs) and the processes that maintain them. In particular, two aspects are investigated: (1) Coupling with convection; and (2) Environmental flow characteristics. This ongoing study will utilize gridded analysis and numerical simulations, and the results will be reported at the conference.
