Sensitivity of hurricane tilt evolution to outer-core profile

Paul D. Reasor, NOAA Hurricane Research Division, Miami, FL

A heuristic model for hurricane-like vortices in vertical shear is revisited. An approximate expression for the tilt perturbation based upon this model suggests a dependence of the evolution on outer-core profile. This dependence is clarified through a re-examination of the underlying assumptions of the model and numerical simulation.
