12.3 Communicating the confidence in your forecast

As we seek to forecast as far into the future as possible, we necessarily reach lead times where the forecast skill is low. The National Weather Service's 5-year strategic plan calls for it to specify the forecast confidence on all national outlook and local forecast products by 2005. We'll look at the science involved (such as comparing multiple forecasts), and we'll consider ways this information might be presented to an audience.
