Doppler and polarization measurements of clear air echoes at Chilbolton

Recent cases of boundary layer clear air observations taken with the Chilbolton Advanced Meteorological Radar are given in this paper. Data taken in recent years shows how the echoes represent boundary layer turbulent activity. The advanced polarisation parameters from the radar are used to distinguish between turbulent echoes, cloud echoes and echoes from insects or particulates. The most common echoes appear at the boundary layer inversion, and sometimes show undulations. The Doppler velocities identify regions of convergence and divergence in the convective structure.
