The first large scale field experiment, called STEPS, involving the two state-of-the-art radars, CSU-CHILL of Colorado State University and S-POL of NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research) was conducted during the convective season of 2000 in the Eastern Plains of Colorado. For the first time polarization signatures from the two radars can be compared over large data sets. Signatures such as Zdr (differential reflectivity), LDR (linear depolarization ratio), phi_dp (differential propagation phase) and co-to-cross correlation coefficient are examined and compared for storms that passed through the base line of the two radars. Discrepancies and anomalies are discussed.
