They Taught the World to Fly—The Wright Brothers North Carolina Experience

This presentation will focus on the general weather conditions at Kitty Hawk, NC, on the day of the Wright Brothers successful first flight, December 17, 1903. The NCDC historical archive weather records from both Cape Hatteras and the Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina will be highlighted as well as surface weather maps from that era. The presentation will also focus on weather conditions on other dates and times in the early 20th Century that the Wright Brothers conducted airplane flight trials.
