To Compete or Non-Compete

The non-compete clause in broadcast talent contracts is under attack. Several states have gotten rid of it, freeing up talent to work for the station they choose without sitting on the sidelines for a long time or leaving the market. The Illinois Legislature dumped the non-compete by overriding the Governor's veto. In Arizona, the non-compete was outlawed in 2002. The beginning of the Arizona story is as strange as the final twist in this story of freedom over indentured servitude.
