A 6-beam rapid-scan mobile radar has been designed and has obtained 3D data in at least 2 tornadoes during 2005. The radar collected 10 sec 12 tilt volumetric data in two simultaneously occurring tornadoes on 09 June 2005 from a range of approximately 2-7 km with 38 m sampling. The Rapid-Scan DOW produces 6 0.8 degree beamwidth beams that are steered by transmitting a stepped chirp pulse with 6 frequencies separated by 76 MHz. Each beam is offset by 1 degree from adjacent beams.
