New capabilities of the National Weather Service Outreach Program

Ron Gird, NOAA/NWS, Silver Spring, MD

The NOAA/National Weather Service (NWS) Outreach Program is focused on listening to our customers and provide the service and products they want from the NWS. Improved customer service involves a more robust approach to notifying customers of future changes, meeting more frequently with our partners and customers and implementing new methods to improve our responses to questions from the public via the NWS web pages. NWS collaborates with our partners such as the American Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and many others to provide the public with reliable, consistent information on severe weather awareness and preparedness. With our partners, the NWS offers the public, students and teachers new capabilities to increase their environmental awareness and science literacy.
